An email response I got from Metro Transit after inquiring about them using Google’s system:
Frankly, we agree with you.
In fact, we started negotiations with Google about joining their Google Transit Project during the winter (there are some costs involved, which is why didn’t join when first asked over three years ago), and we recently gave them access to our transit data (bus stops, route numbers, schedules, etc).
We are currently testing the integration of our transit data with their geographic data on a nonpublic website. It’s slow going as there are over 13,000 bus stop locations and over 200 routes and schedules to check (since we also took responsibility for the data from Plymouth Metrolink, Southwest Transit, Minnesota Valley Transit, and all the other bus operators in the Twin Cities). But we fully expect the data merge and testing will be completed this summer and that Google and Metro Transit will be making a joint announcement before Labor Day.
So we appreciate your patience, and we agree that joining in this effort has real value for many of our customers.
